Colonia may also refer to all inhabited systems within the Colonia Nebula, the wider Colonia Region.Ĭolonia is humanity's first independently established colony beyond the frontier borders of the old worlds. The star system has in turn given name to the nebula it is located within, the Colonia Nebula. In its most narrow sense, it may refer only to the Colonia system itself, where Jaques Station is located. The name "Colonia" has several meanings depending on how broadly it is being used: The name was quickly adopted by the exploration community, and Universal Cartographics made the name change official on October 25, 3302. 
The Eol Prou Nebula was submitted as a POI to the Galactic Mapping Project on July 1, 3302, by CMDR Diostar, with a placeholder name of "Colonia" being suggested by Erimus Kamzel (GMP Founder).
Ĭolonia's original designation was Eol Prou RS-T d3-94. The system is located on the edge of the galactic core regions, where the Near 3kpc Arm and Far 3kpc Arm converge with the Galactic Bar.
1.5 Infrastructure development projectsĬolonia became a hive of activity beginning in June 3302 after the discovery of the stranded Jaques Station by CMDR Cly following the starport's mis-jump to Beagle Point on and subsequent disappearance. Travel and commerce between the Colonia Region and the Core Systems are facilitated by the Colonia Connection Highway. The region is also a convenient stop for deep space explorers and other independent pilots, several hundred of whom have made it their long-term base of operations. It is not governed by any single faction, and the complete absence of powers and superpowers, as well as its remoteness from known Thargoid territories, makes it an attractive prospect for people seeking to escape the tensions and conflicts of the Core Systems. Today, the Colonia Region boasts dozens of inhabited systems and over a hundred ports. Following an extensive search and rescue effort, Jaques Station was restored and its new home, the Colonia system, became the hub of a new frontier for human civilisation. Instead of arriving at its intended destination, Jaques Station's hyperdrive suffered a Thargoid Sensor-induced malfunction in hyperspace that shunted it off-course. 
The region and the nebula are both named after Colonia, a star system that was colonised entirely by accident after the hyperdrive-equipped Jaques Station attempted an unprecedented jump from Gliese 1269 to Beagle Point on May 19, 3302. The Colonia Region is a cluster of independent human colonies located in the Colonia Nebula within the Inner Scutum-Centaurus Arm, approximately 22,000 light years from Sol.
